Barry Haley, the senior
partner of the firm, is a patent attorney who founded
the firm with Eugene F. Malin (1936-1990) in 1969. Mr.
Haley began his career as a Patent Examiner in the U.S.
Patent and Trademark Office from 1967 to 1969 in Group
230 specializing in static and dynamic magnetic storage
devices. He has successfully litigated patent, trademark,
and unfair competition cases in Florida State and federal
courts. Mr. Haley's experience includes 8 years as Patent
Counsel for CAE-LINK Corp., the leading manufacturer
of flight simulators for commercial and military markets
worldwide. While at LINK, Mr. Haley was actively involved
in the preparation of complex software license agreements,
Defense Department procurement regulations and corporate
law.
Mr. Haley was born in Detroit,
Michigan, June 22, 1939. He received a Bachelor's Degree
in Physics from the University of California at Los
Angeles in 1961, where he received a 4 year Naval ROTC
scholarship. After graduating from UCLA, Mr. Haley served
in the United States Navy, achieving the rank of Lieutenant
in Fighter Squadron 14 (VF-14) as a Naval Flight Officer,
1961-1965. He received his Juris Doctor from American
University, Washington College of Law, in 1968. Mr.
Haley was admitted to the Virginia Bar in 1969 and The
Florida Bar in 1970. He is admitted to practice before
the United States Patent and Trademark Office, United
States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, United
States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and
United States District Courts for the Southern and Middle
Districts of Florida. He is a member of the Florida
Bar, the Broward County Bar, and the American Bar Associations.
Mr. Haley has broad patent
experience in the electronic arts, including dynamic
and static magnetic storage systems, communication and
transmission devices, computers, digital image generation,
virtual reality and simulation systems for flight simulation,
telemedical products, and visual display systems using
analog and digital computers and CRTs.
Mr. Haley also has extensive
experience in patent litigation, acquisition of patented
technology, licensing, and patent validity and infringement
searches.

Dale Paul DiMaggio, the managing
partner of the firm, is a patent attorney with eighteen
years experience in prosecuting and litigating patent,
trademark, unfair competition, trade secret, and copyright
matters. His technological background ranges from sophisticated
electronics to complex mechanical systems, relying on
his years of patent prosecution experience as well as
his background as an electrical engineer for the Defense
and Electronics System Center of the Westinghouse Corporation.
His experience includes digital signal processors for
long-range radar systems, wireless communication electronics,
computer architecture, hardware and software, electro-mechanical
devices, control systems and instrumentation, internet
applications and business methods, manufacturing processes,
and medical technology.
Mr. DiMaggio spends a substantial
amount of time involved with the strategic planning
in the creation, management, and commercialization of
corporate intellectual property portfolios. This includes
multi-faceted transactions and licensing. He is involved
in the protection of clients' proprietary rights, and
often acts as the principal litigator in infringement
lawsuits.
Mr. DiMaggio was born in Encino,
California, July 12, 1956. He received a Bachelor of
Science Degree in Engineering with High Honors from
the University of Florida in 1978, and received his
Juris Doctor from the University of Florida in 1983.
He was admitted in 1984 to the Indiana and Florida Bars.
He is admitted to practice before the United States
Patent and Trademark Office, U.S. Court of Appeals for
the Federal and Eleventh Circuits, U.S. District Courts
for the Middle and Southern Districts of Florida, the
Trial Bar of the U.S. District Court for the Southern
District of Florida, and Middle and Southern Districts
of Indiana. He is a member of Tau Beta Pi and Phi Delta
Pi. He is also a member of the West Palm Beach County,
Broward County, Indiana State and American Bar Associations.
Mr. DiMaggio is a member and former President of the
Patent Law Association of South Florida, and also is
a member of the American Trial Lawyers Association,
the Patent, Trademark and Copyright Section of the American
Bar Association and the American Intellectual Property
Law Association.

Mark D. Bowen, a partner of the firm, is a registered patent attorney and Florida Bar Certified Expert in the field of Intellectual Property, with over fifteen years experience in prosecuting and litigating patent, trademark, and copyright cases. His technological background is in mechanical engineering with particular emphasis in the areas of heat transfer, refrigeration, and air conditioning systems drawn from his years as an engineering specialist and regional sales manager for the commercial equipment and controls division of Carrier Air Conditioning Corporation, a subsidiary of United Technologies. Mr. Bowen also has broad patent prosecution experience in the mechanical and electrical arts, including: electronic circuit board fabrication, aviation systems, robotics, emergency rescue devices, medical technologies, investment casting and photo polymerization manufacturing techniques, marine industry systems and sports related devices.
Mr. Bowen received his juris doctor from the University of Miami in 1994, where he was a member of the Intellectual Property Law Association, and a law review member for the University of Miami Yearbook of International law. Mr. Bowen has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from North Carolina State University, where he was honored as a member of the Tau Beta Pi and Pi Tau Sigma honorary engineering societies.

David P. Lhota is a registered patent attorney with substantial experience in the patenting process, litigation and electrical engineering. Mr. Lhota has broad patent prosecution experience in the electronics field, including: cellular communications, pager technology, computers, local area networks, server data traffic management, intelligent controllers, electro-hydraulic and pneumatic control systems, automated measuring instruments, radio technology and medical instrumentation. Mr. Lhota has also litigated patent, trademark and copyright cases in Federal Court and has represented clients in negotiating and drafting intellectual property related licenses and other contracts.
Mr. Lhota is a registered patent attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He is a Member of the Broward County Bar Association, a Member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and Member of the Patent Law Association of South Florida.
He received a Juris Doctor from the University of Miami School of Law in 1994. During law school, he was a legal and technical intern for a local firm, where he assisted in the prosecution of hundreds of patents. He also was a member of the law school's Intellectual Property Law Association and a student member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association. He received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Tulane University, where he was a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
Prior to law school, Mr. Lhota was an electrical systems design engineer with Sikorsky Aircraft and Hamilton Standard, both divisions of United Technologies Corporation. While at Sikorsky, he designed and developed automated test systems for performing static and dynamic stress analysis testing on aircraft and aircraft components including transmissions, rotors, blades, etc. Mr. Lhota then spent two years with Hamilton Standard developing software-driven diagnostic test systems for performing diagnostic testing on electronic engine controls, environmental systems and fuel controls.

Catherine Ferguson is an associate with the firm and her practice includes copyright and trademark matters; both domestic and international trademark applications; representation of clients before the U.S. Trademark Trial and Appeal Board; patent, copyright, and trademark litigation and licensing; and entertainment law.
Mrs. Ferguson was born in Miami, Florida. Mrs. Ferguson received her B.A. from Florida International University in Miami, Florida in 1994. Mrs. Ferguson completed her Juris Doctor degree at Franklin Pierce Law Center in Concord, New Hampshire in 1998. Mrs. Ferguson served as a legal trademark intern at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, where she also held a summer job.
